Description

The PET-48DIO is a 48 channel programmable digital input/output add-on card with an event counter and a timer for IBM PC/AT and compatibles. These 48 digital channels are divided into two groups, each group emulates the operation of an 8255 Programmable Peripheral Interface (PPI) in mode 0. It can directly control Opto-22 compatible I/O racks and modules through 50-pin ribbon connectors.

All 48 digital I/O channels are TTL compatible and use 74LS244 driver/buffer chips to provide high output drive. The output circuits also provide lower loading current than regular TTL circuits. All I/O lines can sink up to 24mA, providing a higher drive capability than the 8255 chip alone.

Only two bytes of I/O port address are occupied by each PET-48DIO card. One is used for indexing, the other is used for data. This minimizes the amount of I/O address space needed.

Three programmable 16-bit counter/timers are used for generating period interrupts to the host processor. One counter/timer is used as an event counter for counting events coming from input channels. The other two are cascaded together making a 32-bit timer. Two clock sources (2 MHz and 32.768 KHz) can be selected by jumper settings. Power on Initial Output Status is User Configurable as High or Low

With the interrupt control circuitry, either PC0 or PC3 from Port C of the PET-48DIO 8255, PPIs can generate an interrupt request. The PET-48DIO internal timer can also generate a periodic interrupt request, with a S/W programmable period ranging from 2 msec to 131072 sec. You can chose from IRQ3 to IRQ15 by changing the jumper setting.

Software

Two software development kits support the PET-48DIO.

An extensive library of functions are available that support Microsoft C and Borland C/C++. Example programs are included to demonstrate how to write C program for the PET-48DIO.

The ACLS-DLL1 is a high performance Windows driver for Digital I/O functions. It provides a DLL that can be accessed from C, C++ and Visual Basic under Windows 3.x environment. (ACLS-DLL1)
